Beautiful castle and grounds. The tour of the castle itself was very informative and personal. We really loved strolling around the grounds. Also, it is not at all busy and very peaceful. I will go back.
Wonderful place to visit. A real page of history
A visit to Château de La Motte-Tilly is like being a guest of some very pleasant, if unfamiliar people. Here you will be told about the life of the house, the objects that have come out of use, the people who lived here or are depicted in the portraits, and the old print books (as if just to keep you occupied while dinner is being served).
This is the atmosphere that the last owner, marquise de Maillé, wished to preserve at the castle. In the early 1970s, she transferred the estate and the park of over 1,000 hectares to the French State as she had no direct heirs left.
This was a perfect solution to preserve the interiors and furnishings that the marquise and her father had spent dozens of years on (re)creating and not let history repeat itself at the end of the 18th century when, following the death of the manor's founder, the last Minister of Finance under Louis XV, and the ensuing Revolution, the castle fell into disrepair for more than a century.
Now this mid-18th-century "hunting lodge" together with the park makes a very pleasant impression, so I think Colin Firth and Miloš Forman spent a wonderful time here in the late 1980s working on the film "Valmont".
Beautifully well preserved and furnished château, with knowledgeable and friendly guide. Going back for sure for the special guided visit of the grounds! I highly recommend. Château guided tour 8€, but you can visit the beautiful grounds for free, and have a picnic there in the warm seasons.
A beautiful small château just outside Paris. The buildings and grounds are kept well. Entrance to the grounds is free and it only costs €8 to see inside the château.
We saw orchids and cowslips amongst the many small flowers that cover the cut grass.
With free parking and free to explore the grounds you can't go wrong! stunning achetecture and national collection of tillia sp. made for a fantastic day out!
I was the only visitor this afternoon and had a joint ticket with the Camille Claudel museum. The chateau tour was to start at 1500 (I had to wait half an hour when there was no one there) and the guide went indoors and then ignored my presence. Saw rain clouds approaching and left at 1505.
In a 6ha territory, the castle built during Louis XV was renewed in the end of XIX century where the last owner died and gave it to public government assuming it would stay as it is when she lived there. …
